Observer Cemetery Junction actors article

An article in today's Observer by Stephen Merchant describes the young actors of Cemetery Junction. Here's the bit about Felicity Jones:
A lot of young actors are inexperienced, which means they lack confidence. Felicity Jones has been acting since she was nine and has done lots of film work, which means she is comfortable on camera and doesn't need a lot of hand-holding and mollycoddling, a great asset when you're working fast. Her character, Julie, has heard about women's lib and 60s permissiveness but is totally unaware that she is a caged bird, unwittingly controlled by a fiancé and a father who've mapped out her future as a good little wife. On screen, Felicity has a luminance that is hugely appealing, but also a retro quality that puts you in mind of the Julie Christies and Rita Tushinghams of yesteryear. That quality was hard to find because most young actresses seem very modern and knowing. Felicity can project a more old- fashioned mix of intelligence and innocence, and you can believe she's a smart woman blind to the realities around her.

Felicity Jones Albatross synopsis and Wonderland photos

Thanks to Enrique for sending in a Felicity Fix. First of all here is a synopsis of her new movie Albatross:

Seventeen year old force-of-nature Emelia starts a new job at The Cliff House, a small hotel run by the dysfunctional Fischer family. Beth Fischer, also seventeen, is cramming for her exams in a desperate bid to escape to University. Dad Jonathan is an author. Once the bright young thing of the literary establishment, he is now suffering interminable writer's block. Wife Joa runs the hotel Jonathan bought with earnings from his first book. She resents it, him, and everyone around her as she gave up her 'promising career as an actress' for this.

Emelia is an aspiring writer; believing she is following in the footsteps of her great-grandfather Sir Arthur Conan-Doyle. Jonathan sees promise in Emelia and begins to tutor her, but their relationship quickly crosses the pupil-teacher line and they embark on a love affair. At the same time, Emelia and Beth strike up a surprise friendship: Emelia's free-spirit helps Beth learn to let her hair down and Emelia is inspired by Beth's determination and focus.

Secrets are revealed as the threads of the story collide and unravel. Can Emelia get rid of the Albatross that hangs round her neck and rewrite herself?

Felicity Jones in The Men at the Pru

Felicity's next job is in The Men at the Pru...

British actress Felicity Jones has signed to play the female lead in Ricky Gervais' 1970s insurance-world dramedy "The Men at the Pru."

Jones will play Julie, who is led to believe by the men around her that a woman should focus on raising a family but who wants to break out and pursue a career in photography.

The picture, from the Sony International Motion Picture Production Group, which is designed to cultivate local production, is set to shoot in the summer in the U.K. It revolves around three men in their 20s who work at an insurance company (Pru is short for Prudential). Gervais is writing, directing and producing with "Extras" collaborator Stephen Merchant.

Jones has had roles in a number of high-profile British pics, starring last year in Julius Jarrold's "Brideshead Revisited" for Miramax, in the specialty division's upcoming Stephen Frears' period romance "Cheri," and Julie Taymor's femme-centric retelling of "The Tempest."

Jones has also just signed with CAA in the U.S. She continues to be repped by Independent Talent Group in the U.K.

Felicity Jones

So now I can get started.

Why am I doing this blog thing?

I've been running a number of web sites for the last 11 years (!) and I figure using a blog for some of the content might make things a bit easier. My website can be found at myweb.tiscali.co.uk/chevron. It's mostly some fansites of actresses and some of my favourite authors.

Just to get things started here's a piece of news about one of my favourite actresses, Felicity Jones. Today's Sunday Times newspaper has a nice long piece about her:
entertainment.timesonline.co.uk.

Felicity was in the ITV version of Northanger Abbey in 2007 and she has a small part in the new Brideshead Revisited movie. My Felicity fan page called FelicityFix can be found at http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/chevron/felicityjones/index.html

Finally, here's a photo of Fliss from a copy of InStyle magazine:
